The Brazilian-American Chamber of Commerce is pleased to announce Civics Educação as the recipient of the 2026 Social Responsibility Award for Leadership Development. This distinction recognizes the organization’s outstanding commitment to social responsibility through leadership development initiatives that contribute to the advancement of society as a whole. Founded by 2018 Person of the Year Fellow Felipe Neves, Civics Educação is a Brazilian non-profit dedicated to transforming legal education in Brazil. The organization consolidates its work through two main fronts: the democratization of constitutional knowledge and law-related learning, and the creation of career opportunities for low-income youth. These efforts are carried out through two core initiatives: Projeto Constituição na Escola and Next Generation of Lawyers. Established in 2014, Projeto Constituição na Escola provides in-person instruction on the Brazilian Federal Constitution to public high school students. Since its inception, the program has delivered more than 300 classes, reaching over 250,000 students with the support of a network of more than 150 volunteer lawyers. The project’s impact has been formally recognized by Brazil’s justice system, most notably with the prestigious 2017 Innovare Award from the Ministry of Justice. Complementing this initiative, Next Generation of Lawyers focuses on advancing social mobility within the legal profession. The program identifies and mentors high-potential law students from public school backgrounds, connecting them with leading law firms across Brazil and accelerating their professional development. In addition to scholarships and internship opportunities, Next offers a transformative international component: an immersive exchange experience in the United States, which includes visits to universities, law firms, and US-based companies. Currently, Next supports 115 low-income students and has already enabled more than 80 participants to study abroad. The program also maintains strategic global partnerships, including with Georgetown University Law School (for LL.M. scholarships) and Harvard Law School Brazilian Legal Studies Association (for short-term programs), ensuring students have access to world-class educational opportunities. Through its integrated approach, Civics Educação cultivates active citizenship and professional ambition that transforms the trajectories of public-school students. By democratizing access to legal knowledge and bridging pathways to elite careers, the organization reshapes the diversity of Brazil’s legal landscape, generating a powerful multiplier effect that promotes lasting social mobility. The Social Responsibility Award for Leadership Development will be presented to Civics Educação at the 2026 Person of the Year Awards Gala Dinner on May 13th at the American Museum of Natural History in New York City. |

Brazilian-American Chamber of Commerce • 485 Madison Avenue, Suite 401, New York, New York 10022, United States • 2127514691 | | | The Brazilian-American Chamber of Commerce, in partnership with King & Spalding LLP, is proud to organize the “Brazil: Economic and Political Outlook,” to take place on Thursday, January 29, 2026.
Brazil’s October presidential elections are defining the outlook for 2026. Despite sizable fiscal imbalances and persistently high interest rates, a shift toward a more sustainable policy mix remains unlikely in the near term. A resilient labor market and renewed fiscal stimulus — intended to bolster the administration’s reelection prospects — should continue to sustain moderate growth. At the same time, inflation is expected to ease, allowing the Central Bank of Brazil some room to begin a gradual policy adjustment.
Heightened international geopolitical tensions will further complicate the environment for investors, who will remain closely focused on political developments before and after the elections. Brazil is approaching a fiscal cliff that cannot be resolved in an election year but can no longer be postponed. Addressing it will require political determination and significant commitment of political capital early in the next administration. The key question is whether this challenge will be confronted decisively — potentially setting in motion a virtuous cycle — or met with another round of ad hoc, tax-based measures that would weigh on investment, constrain growth, and heighten risks to debt sustainability. The contours of this trajectory should begin to take shape as candidates confirm, or decline, their bids in late March amid a deeply polarized political landscape.
Join us for the “2026 Brazil: Economic and Political Outlook,” where a distinguished panel of analysts will provide in-depth assessments of the economic trends and policy dynamics shaping Brazil’s trajectory in the months ahead. |

We're now a few weeks into the new year so I’m reaching out to share some important updates. As of January 16, 2026: - The DLCC announced its largest-ever target map, targeting 42 chambers and aiming to flip over 650 seats this year. To fund this strategy, we’ve set a goal to raise $50 million. 🎯
- Democrats are competing in five majority-deciding special elections across four battleground states – Michigan, Minnesota, Pennsylvania, and Virginia. 🗳️
- This month, we still need to raise $150,000 to meet our goal and lay the groundwork for the DLCC’s success in 2026. 💪
The best way to help hit our goal is with a donation of $10 or more to become a Down Ballot Defender and claim your 2026 membership. Click here to step up with a donation today → Your 2026 Down Ballot Defender Record

Donald Trump sent a mob to the Capitol to steal an election. | He had just lost an election, fair and square, and he didn’t like the result. So he decided he was going to try to silence the voices of 81 million people. | It was one of the darkest days in the history of our country, but we made it through. | Now he’s back, five years later, and it’s the same scheme. His Secretary of Defense, Pete Hegseth, is trying to silence me as we speak. He thinks he can make an example out of me, and intimidate others into staying quiet. | But here’s the thing: Americans really like freedom of speech. You sign an oath to defend it when you join the military. Trying to silence people into compliance is just about the most un-American thing you can do. Period. | There is nothing Trump or Hegseth or anybody in that administration can do to shut me up. I am going to keep fighting for our people, our democracy, and our Constitution. | We’re not going to let him win. Not a chance. So, five years on from January 6th, I want you to take this to heart: Do not be afraid. Do not be silent. Speak out. | We’re going to get through this the same way we did back then: together. | Please, split a grassroots donation between Catherine Cortez Masto and me to help support our fight against Trump. This is our toughest yet, and I need a huge team behind me. | If you've saved payment information with ActBlue Express, your split donation between Mark Kelly and Catherine Cortez Masto will go through immediately: | Thank you. | Mark |
